Sonja Lena Schmid is a Hamburg-based cellist and performer. As a soloist and as a member of the Decoder Ensemble, she has commissioned and premiered over 60 new works, appearing at numerous international festivals. Since May 2019, she has been Professor of Ensemble and Digital Performance at the Trossingen University of Music. For her first concert series in Japan she is joined by German, Osaka-based sound artist Luis Miehlich. Together, they will present improvisations and the Japanese premieres of two new works, both created at the State Centre for Music, Design, and Performance Trossingen: „Touch“, by composer Prof. Ludger Brümmer, and „Map Music“ by Luis Miehlich, a collection of pieces that use maps as graphical scores.
Sonja Lena Schmid（ソーニャ・レナ・シュミット）は、ハンブルクを拠点に活動するチェリスト／パフォーマー。ソリストおよびDecoder Ensembleのメンバーとして、これまでに60曲以上の新作を委嘱・初演し、数多くの国際音楽祭に出演している。現代音楽を軸に、演奏と身体性、テクノロジーを横断する表現を探求している。
2019年5月より、Trossingen University of Musicにてアンサンブルおよびデジタル・パフォーマンスの教授を務める。
本公演では、ドイツ出身で大阪を拠点に活動するサウンドアーティストLuis Miehlichと共演。即興演奏に加え、トロッシンゲン州立音楽・デザイン・パフォーマンスセンターで制作された2作品を日本初演する。作曲家Ludger Brümmerによる《Touch》、そして地図をグラフィック・スコアとして用いた《Map Music》（ルイス・ミーリッヒ作）を上演予定。
